Highway 55 Burgers and Fries is the new retro restaurant in the Blacksburg area, bringing a more urban look to town. Highway 55 plans to develop as a top restaurant in the future.
Highway 55 Burgers and Fries is the new up and coming restaurant in the Blacksburg area. A fast food diner with 50s style family dining; Highway 55 is a place to order items such as your typical burgers and fries with a twist.
People may describe Blacksburg as a more rural or country type of town with limited food options, but now with the opening of Highway 55 Burgers and Fries those options have expanded and Blacksburg has more of a city atmosphere. Walking into the restaurant you can see photos from the 1950s and hear old rock and roll music playing, giving the restaurant a retro feel. Having colorful tables, inexpensive prices, and photos of pop stars and old time reggae parties creates a relaxed atmosphere.

Head waitress Ashley Scaggs stated, “We go out of our way to have conversations with people, to make sure they have a good day while they are here.”
Highway 55 Burgers and Fries has award winning orangeade and lemonade, making it a top choice restaurant for many customers in town. Aside from the drinks and milkshakes, it is known for some of the best burgers and cheesesteaks in town. This new restaurant brings a diversified and unique menu to town.
Since opening in Blacksburg on Nov. 16, 2015, owner Don Downard described Highway 55 Burgers and Fries as, “Pandemonium, it was just a huge number of people in the store. I mean it was totally packed.”
Although new to to the Blacksburg area, according to the official online website the restaurant has been open since 1991. Highway 55 Burgers and Fries aims to give customers fast food restaurant service with the retro family style type of environment. According to reviews on the Yelp website, Highway 55 Burgers and Fries has a consistent rate of pleasing customers.
Mr. Downard described the rate of the business as constantly flowing and the Blacksburg community has adapted to it well. Still growing and developing to its full potential, Mr. Downard is planning on building and expanding his Highway 55 Burgers and Fries restaurant in the future.
