A Life Changing Moment

Stephen dixon is a Virginia Tech junior who was excited and surprised to be admitted in Virginia Tech.
It was in December of 2011, Stephen receive some of the most important news of his life. Stephen was a senior at Madison County High School where he was battling his peers to decide his college fate. Stephen had a bloodline of his father going to Virginia Tech, and his grandfather worked at a farm Virginia Tech owned, so Virginia Tech was his top college to attend. Stephen and his best friend once stated that they both wanted to go to the same college and room together their freshman year.
After Being anxious and after patiently waited on the early admission letter, on December 15th 2011, Stephen and his best friend finally received their early admission form.
“I have always done well in school, but it was like have I done enough, and it was a relief that all of my hard work paid off,” stated Stephen.
Stephen did not want to go and just tell his parents so he printed out the letter and placed it on the kitchen counter to surprise his mom and dad. When his mom was getting ready for work she screamed with excitement for Stephen, and congratulated him with a hug.
Later that week, Stephen started to notice that a lot of his close friends were suddenly appearing at his house out of nowhere, his mom threw him an acceptance party. All of his closest friends showed up to help congratulate and celebrate his college acceptance.
Now being a Virginia Tech, Stephen described this experience as a lasting change in his life. Stephen is involved in many different clubs and activities at Virginia Tech now. After switching from a math major two semesters ago, Stephen decided to go with a more engaging major, such as Communication.
“Comm is so much more fun, so much more tangible, and I have always been excited about sports and video,” stated Stephen.
Stephen works with Hokie Vision, where he records and edits the videos of all of the sports teams. Stephen also met a lot of lifelong friends on campus who also helped him grow in his faith and keep him on the right track. Stephen is apart of a campus ministry called Disciples On Campus where he now speaks and acts on his faith each day.
Stephen described being at Virginia Tech as one of the best decision of his life, and knowing that he only has one year left, leaves him a bittersweet taste.
